What is End-of-Life Planning?

End-of-life planning has 3 essential parts: legal planning, personal planning and practical planning

Legal Planning

Handled through formal documents, usually prepared by a solicitor. These include:

  • Will
  • Enduring Power of Attorney
  • Advance Health Directive
  • Superannuation nominations
  • Other legal documents relevant for your specific circumstances

These documents give legal authority and outline your wishes.

Personal Planning

The personal wishes, memories and guidance you want to leave behind for loved ones. These may include:

  • funeral and memorial preferences
  • cultural or spiritual traditions
  • messages for loved ones
  • keepsakes and personal items
  • photos and video collections
  • care of pets

This information helps preserve your wishes, values and personal legacy.

Practical Planning

The practical details families need access to in your absence include:

  • details about your children
  • bank accounts and insurance policies
  • service providers and key contacts
  • household details
  • digital accounts and subscriptions
  • guidance for children and pets

This information is rarely written down in one place.

End-of-life planning is most effective when legal, personal and practical planning work together. Legal planning provides authority, personal planning preserves wishes and memories, and practical planning helps loved ones manage everyday life.

Handbook of Your Life focuses on the personal and practical information that legal documents alone do not cover. From funeral preferences and family traditions to household affairs, key contacts and important documents, it helps bring everything together in one place.

The result is an organised record that can reduce confusion, save time and support your loved ones when it matters most.

When something happens, families shouldn’t be left searching for answers.

Watch: Why Handbook of Your Life Was Created

Why It Matters

The most organised thing you’ll ever do for the people who matter the most – your loved ones.

  • Your family focuses on each other — not on hunting for information

  • Clear, structured guidance replaces the guesswork families face alone

  • Every account, contact and detail — documented, indexed and ready

  • Nothing left undocumented. Nothing left to chance.

Most families don’t realise how much only you know — until the moment they need it. Your handbook changes that.

I didn’t plan a business — I planned for my kids. When I realised my family would be left searching if the worst happened, I sat down and documented everything they’d need. That became Handbook of Your Life.

Knowing that whoever has to deal with my passing will have all the information they will ever need, from my children’s food allergies to my pets routines is wonderful. Nothing else is more comprehensive. And so affordable!

Deb (Geham, Qld)

End-of-Life Planning Handbooks for Single Parents

The handbook is so thorough and absolutely invaluable for the peace of mind it provides me as a single mother, knowing I’ve provided my children the best chance at transitioning into a new life and recovery from their grief, in the event I am unable to be there for them as they grow.

Julia (Crows Nest, Qld)

End-of-Life Planning Handbooks for Singles

A great idea. Will make the most difficult time in my family’s life a lot less stressful than would otherwise be the case.

Craig (Brooloo, Qld)

End-of-Life Planning Handbooks for Single Parents

It’s something I didn’t want to think about, but I’m very glad I have this Handbook to assist me in taking over affairs for both myself and siblings if my mother were to pass away. Thank you mum for organising everything for us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a Will Kit?2025-08-12T20:56:56+10:00

Our End-of-Life Planning Handbooks are absolutely not a Will or Will Kit. Our Handbooks do work in perfect harmony with your existing Will and your other legal documents however. Please view our “Beyond Your Will” page for more information.

How long will it take to complete my handbook?2025-08-09T13:34:32+10:00

Set aside a few hours initially to determine the information you can fill out immediately and information and documents you still need to get. Small amounts of time across a week should see the bulk of the handbook completed.

Can I update my handbook as needed?2026-03-12T14:42:46+10:00

Yes. Your handbook can be expanded with additional information pages at any time via the Customer Resources Portal. To make updates easier, consider completing sections in pencil so details can be revised as circumstances change.

Where should I store the completed handbook?2026-03-12T14:42:00+10:00

Keep your completed handbook somewhere a trusted person can access it. For best security, store the companion document in a separate location — and make sure your trusted person knows where both are kept.

I don’t see my family or situation listed here. What should I do?2025-12-28T20:31:21+10:00

That’s more common than you think. Families aren’t one-size-fits-all. All Handbook of Your Life kits are modular, so you can add Child or Care Recipient Add-Ons where needed. If you’re unsure which handbook is the right starting point – or your situation feels more complex – get in touch and we’ll help you choose or tailor a setup that reflects your real life.
